Wandering into a rather fabulous little local bar/restaurant near home on Saturday night, we took our seats at the bar with every intention of ordering the rather nifty Prosecco on tap. We then made a discovery. Ferran Adria, and his el Bulli team have got together with the Damm brewery to make a beer to go with food. Well, we weren't eating, but we were certainly prepared to give it a go. It's sold in a 75cl 'wine' bottle, and served in white wine glasses, and it's designed to be quaffed with foods that are hard to match wines to - asparagus, oily fish etc.
And it's good. It's cloudy and not too harsh but neither is it bland, like a lot of European lagers. It's gently fizzy, without being unpleasantly gassy and it's got a mild, almost white beer taste. I'm now trying to find a retailer that sells it so I can try at home with those 'hard to pair' foods, and see if it does what it sets out to do. But as a stand alone drink, I rather like both the taste and the serving method - after all, a glam girl can only approve of drinking beer out of wine glasses!
